WE CO-ORDINATE WITH NATIONAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY, GOVERNMENT AND INDUSTRIES TO MAKE COMMUNITIES RESILIENT TO DISASTERS
FICCI through its innovative planning and policies have sensitized the masses on disaster risk reduction by organizing conferences on Chemical (Industrial) Disaster Management (CIDM) and Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Disaster Management.
Industry representative's takes part from all across the regions and FICCI brings on board National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India and Ministry of Labour/Revenue of states so as to discuss matters related to disaster management and increase the safety standard in industries all across the Nation. The emerging threats of natural catastrophes make it necessary to devise strategies for prevention, detection, mitigation and preparedness for prompt and effective response, in case of such an eventuality. FICCI helps in bringing in together the efforts of various Government departments and helps to connect with the community for spreading awareness
FICCI co-ordinates with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India which was constituted in Sept, 2005 consequent to enactment of Disaster Management Act, 2005. Hon'ble Prime Minister of India is ex-officio Chairman of NDMA. NDMA, as per its inter alia mandate, has brought out National Guidelines on (i) Chemical (Industrial) Disaster Management (CIDM) (ii) MP & MCM (iii) POL Tankers; the objective of the guidelines is to strengthen prevention, mitigation and preparedness measures; minimize accidents; and set up an effective mechanism to respond to disasters.
FICCI also co-ordinates with labour Commissioners/ CIFs/ Directorate of Factories/State Pollution Control Boards of Government of Punjab, Haryana, J&K and Himachal Pradesh. FICCI also co-ordinate with PNGRB – Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, Government of India, which was established in 2007 subsequent to an Act of Parliament. The objectives of the board are to regulate refine, process, storage, transportation, distribution, marketing and sale of petroleum, petroleum products and natural gas, excluding production of crude oil and natural gas. One of the functions of the Board is to regulate technical standards and specifications including safety standards. The Board has formulated Technical Standards and Specifications including Safety Standards for City or Local Natural Gas Distribution Networks, Regulations, 2008.
